(1996) is "Tic, Tic Tac" (1996) by Carrapicho (1993-present).

Get it?

Bate forte o tambor eu quero tic tic tic tic tac

и.т.п.

=======================

================

Wikipedia says it's an inedible (note, not poisonous) mushroom. Inedible my ass. Russian Wikipedia goes ever farther:  "Жгуче-горькая на вкус, может вызывать тошноту, запах неприятный".

In 1986, we were collecting them in Estonia by the bucket. Every single one was always just choke full of maggots throughout.  Clearly, they didn't think these mushrooms were inedible.

We were putting them into huge tubs full of salt water, on slow heat. Maggots were crawling out and were swimming on the surface in thick mats, about 1 inch deep, which we then drained off. Nevertheless, only a small portion of them did manage to get out, before dying in their mushroomy tombs, no mater how slowly we tried to heat it up. Whoever didn't get out in time, served as extra protein supplement.

Some gourmand refused to eat the shrooms: "объедки не ем". More for us.

As many of you know, but most were lucky enough to be be spared, that's pretty much what we do while hiking, except that our range is even larger, both in genre and languages, and memory is still somewhat better than his. My singing is better then his as well, if I may say so myself.

In his book "At the Edge of Space: The X-15 Flight Program" Milton O.
In his book "At the Edge of Space: The X-15 Flight Program" Milton O. Thompson describes how after Neil Armstrong landed on a dry lake bed on flight #26, the flight director asked the chase plane pilot if X-15 had enough clearance from the Joshua Trees at the edge of the lake.
- Oh, he had plenty. At least 30 ft on either side.

http://books.google.com/books?id=2TvXGwAACAAJ

Another desciption of that flight:
http://www.air-and-space.com/x-15%20forty%20years%20later%20200204.htm

Reading the book was just mind-boggling. How it was impossible to keep the airplane below Mach 3. It was going Mach 3.5 at minimum thrust with speedbrake on. How the acceleration was increasing from 2.0g to 4.0g for 87 seconds throughout the flight. How a momentary distraction caused some pilots to miss their landing, instead flying over the runway at 90,000 ft and Mach 3.0. How they had to actually fly the reentry at 7g for 30 sec. Signs in the cockpit "Do not deploy landing gear above Mach 4.  Etc.

I consider 1960-1970 to be a golden age of aviation.
I consider 1960-1970 to be a golden age of aviation. This is when we saw X-15 (1959-1970), F-108 (1959), XB-70 (1964-1969), SR-71 (1964-1998) etc, brute-force high-speed aircraft made of steel (and sometimes titanium). After that era, it was all about maneuverability and stealth. Bleach. Sure, it wins wars, but not a child's imagination. Think of the children!

Hopefully, we'll see the resurgence of it in private space companies.

I consider 1920-1930 to be the silver age, when all those first non-stop distance flights were made.

Louse is very animal-specific.
Louse is very animal-specific. In Human/Chimpanzee common ancestor, they were running around head-to-tail, but when humans lost body hair ~6Mya, that lice became stranded on the head, where it evolved into Human Head Louse (Pediculus humanus capitis) "Головная вошь". In school we were warned not to borrow military berets from other classes, or we may get head lice. Head lice carry no deceases.

Head louse can't live on pubic hair, which is much thicker, similar to Gorilla hair. ~3.6Mya, humans acquired Pubic Louse (Pthirus pubis) "Лобковая вошь" aka crabs, from Gorilla Louse (Pthirus gorillae) "Вошь гориллы", either via having sex with them or via hunting them au naturel, or sleeping in their nests. We will never know. Pubic louse carry no deceases.

~0.5 Mya, humans acquired 2 more varieties of head lice from other hominins in Asia. One is present only in America and Asia, and the other only in Nepal and Ethiopia.

When humans invented clothes ~100 Kya, new varieties of Body Louse (Pediculus humanus humanus) "Платяная/нательная вошь" began to continuously evolve from Head Louse. Body lice need clothes to survive. It is indistinguishable in appearance from the head louse, and under laboratory (but not natural) conditions they will interbreed. Body lice carry epidemic typhus (сыпной тиф), trench fever, and relapsing fever (Возвратный тиф).

National Geographic Magazine Dec 2012 issue has a centerfold image of the 3,200-year-old Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) "гигантская секвойя" called "The President", from California’s Sierra Nevada (Sequoia National Park), 247 ft (75m) tall. Giant sequoias are the world's largest trees by volume. The centerfold is a mosaic of 126 images. Compare to my photos of the same tree from 2010:

Tallest trees are California Coastal Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) "Секвойя красная". The tallest is 379 feet (115.5 m)
