Lunar eclipse Jul 2018, featuring Mars in opposition. A good illustration for a couple of things:

1. Mars is 6.5° from the Moon, which is on the ecliptic (because there is eclipse, duh). Mars at opposition, i.e. its ecliptic longitude is equal to that of Earth. But it's not at the ecliptic due to its ecliptic latitude being 5° (while Earth ecliptic latitude is always 0°).

2. Mars Inclination to the ecliptic is 1.850°. During opposition Mars is 1.4 AU from Sun, i.e as seen from Earth, it can be as far from ecliptic as 1.4/(1.4-1)*1.850°=6.5°.

3. This is actually close to max Mars ecliptic latitude (likely Jupiter resonance). So, as expected, you can clearly see that the ecliptic (Moon with shadow symmetry line) is perpendicular to Moon-Mars line.
