In totally unrelated news: 387 Million crepes were also stolen.

I need to get me a barrel of maple syrup for $22M/16K=$1250

The stolen syrup was a small portion (8M lb or 15%) of the national strategic syrup reserve. The currently recovered syrup was a small portion (7%) of the stolen one.

Quebec produces about 75% of the world's maple syrup. The federation, which represents about 10,000 Quebec farmers, created its strategic reserve in 2000 to be drawn on if supply of the maple syrup falls because of poor yields from bad weather, or higher-than-expected demand. The reserve currently holds about 50 million pounds of maple syrup, up from 37 million pounds last year.

The federation said it now sells one pound of Quebec's maple syrup to distributors and food processors for $2.90.
