Carbonated candy (газированые конфеты) "Pop Rocks" (sold 1975-1983) was made by melting its ingredients (sugar, lactose, corn syrup) in 40 atm. CO2, then cooling it, trapping tiny high-pressure bubbles inside the candy.

As early as 1979, rumors started that eating Pop Rocks and drinking cola would cause a person's stomach to explode.  The FDA set up a hotline to assure anxious parents that their children would not explode.  General Foods sent letters to school principals, created an open letter to parents, took out advertisements in major publications and sent the confection's inventor on the road to explain, as usual, that under capitalism, nobody wants their customers to explode. Nobody believed him. Clearly evil corporation was not to be trusted.

Pop Rocks are a part of 1970 nostalgia.
