One of the coolest CubeSats ever is 3U (10x10x33 cm) ExoplanetSat from MIT - an exoplanet transit finder. Using COTS almost everything.

- 36W Solar panels (Clydespace), spring-loaded hinges from Pumpkin, Inc.
- Power Supply (Clydespace 3U CubeSat EPS)
- 40Whr Lithium ion/polymer batteries (Clydespace)
- Piezoelectric stage
- Attitude reaction wheels (MAI-200) - Magnetic torque coils
- MEMS gyros
- magnetometer
- Lens for 35mm SLR: Zeiss Planar T 1.4/85
- CCD/CMOS
- Radio/Antenna/Modem (Microhard n2420)
- CPU/Flash/RAM

Very few things are custom (chassis, FPGA, software)

The total cost is $5M, but marginal cost must be much lower. Awesome.
