Beautiful Andromeda was the daughter of king Cepheus and queen Cassiopeia, who boasted that Andromeda was more beautiful than the Nereids, the sea nymphs. They got pissed and asked their friend Poseidon to teach Cassiopea a lesson. Poseidon sent Cetus (sea monster, not a whale) to ravage the coast, and the only way to appease him was to chain virgin Andromeda nude to a sea rock for sacrifice.

Perseus returning with the head of Gorgon Medusa, was immediately smitten by Andromeda (who wouldn't), showed the Medusa's head to Cetus, turning him into an island. They married and happily lived ever after.

Poseidon and Gorgon Medusa gave birth to Pegasus, making him a mixed breed with an excellent pedigree. Constellation of Pegasus and Andromeda share a star γ Pegasi = α Andromedae
