Little known etymological fact that "Cover Song" originated from Russian "Искове́рканная Песня", later reduced to simply "Ка́вер" (мн.ч. Каве́ры). Don't confuse with "Album Cover Art", which originated from Russian "Ко́врик" (Арт-Альбома). Cover-song is a special case of "Remake", т.е. кавер-версия является частным случаем "ремейка", результата сношений ремня и линейки.
