Manhattanhenge [1] in 2012 is

Tue, May 29 — 8:17 P.M. EDT and
Thu, July 12 — 8:25 P.M. EDT

These dates are equidistant (22 days) from summer solstice, which is June 20. 2012, 19:09 EDT.

For those who live in Manhattan, this is a good time to teach children the formula for Solar Azimuth Angle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_azimuth_angle), simplified by the fact that at sunset solar elevation angle is zero, and have them verify it with a compass and on the map, to check if everything is fine in the heavens.
