California golden poppy (Eschscholzia californica), "Мак калифорнийский" is the official State Flower (since 1903), and tomorrow, April 6 is California Poppy Day (California Government Code Section 421 http://law.onecle.com/california/government/421.html)
Our tributes to the occasion:

They grow everywhere in CA, including around our house, we love them.

As you drive along the California Pacific coast to the South, the poppies, quite abruptly, change from orange to yellow. That's where "South California" begins, as far as we are concerned, which just happens to be around the South end of Big Sur. This change may be happening only along the coast.
