Why are they called "Arctic Tern", not "Antarctic Tern", although they spend equal amount of time here and there.
Why are they called "Arctic Tern", not "Antarctic Tern", although they spend equal amount of time here and there. Because of where they breed, of course.

I'm not a birder but this is one of the more incredible bird stories out there--a small bird that migrates 70,000 km per year (SEVENTY THOUSAND KILOMETERS). Over the life of a bird, that amounts to a distance equivalent to flying to the moon and back three times. Holy tern!!!
