Our proud ancestor, mighty ape is strong.
Our proud ancestor, mighty ape is strong. Pound-for-pound their arms are 2x stronger then human's. So what, I though, this must be because they hang on trees all the time, my legs must be way stronger. I press 500 lb easy. Not so. Must be because they jump all the time too. Clearly, I should do plyometrics. It seems that humans traded strength for endurance (legs), especially those with rs1815739 SNP mutation in the ACTN3 gene, and precision (arms). Also, chimps are able to whip themselves into frenzy at will (OO-OO-A-A), which increase their 1RM strength by a further 2x.
